Sweet Potato Dog Treats


Homemade sweet potato dog chews are the perfect healthy snack for dogs who love to chew things. These sweet potato dog treats made at home and budget-friendly and eliminates any unwanted ingredients that can be found in shop bought dog treats.


These treats are extremely easy to make and are shelf-stable too if you make a big batch!


Benefits of sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are nutrient-dense and are packed with disease-fighting antioxidants. The antioxidants help your dog’s body fight common health issues relates to ageing like stiff joints and memory loss.


Sweet potatoes are a good source of dietary fibre and great for the digestive system and they are great for your dogs blood pressure because they have lots of potassium which helps your dogs body regulate their fluid balance.






Recipe


  • Sweet Potatoes

  • Ground Cinnamon (optional)


Method


  1. Wash 4 medium sweet potatoes

  2. Slice the sweet potatoes between 1/4 and 1/2-inch thickness

  3. In a large pot blanch the sweet potatoes in boiling water for 4-6 minutes

  4. Drain the potatoes in a colander.

  5. Put the slices in a bath of ice water for several minutes until cool.

  6. Place the slices in a single layer on a wire rack on top of a baking sheet.

  7. Lightly sprinkle cinnamon on top (optional)

  8. Preheat your oven to its lowest temperature.

  9. Bake for 4-6 hours, or until the sweet potatoes are the texture you desire.



Once your sweet potato treats are cooled down you can watch your pup enjoy their healthy delicious snack!
